NEWS: Reviving the Heart of the West End and Solar Learning launch the Business Sparks programme

Solar Learning Services in partnership with Reviving the Heart of the West End a Newcastle upon Tyne based charity launched a new programme called Business Sparks on 14th November 2011. The new Business Sparks programme aims to offer over the next 6 months opportunities to support young people to set up or develop their own businesses enterprises or social enterprises.

The new Business Sparks programme aims to offer over the next 6 months opportunities to support young people to set up or develop their own businesses enterprises or social enterprises.

The programme will offer...

·         One to one support with writing business planning, preparing a cash flow forecast

·         Workshops with advice on business planning, marketing, social media, finance, research and selling your own products

·         A business grant to help participants to develop their business idea

·         Mentoring form people who run their own business

·         Free office space at the John Buddle Work Village in Newcastle’s West End

·         Information on other business opportunities

Solar Learning Services staff team have already delivered an initial workshop for young people’s practitioners working in the area with young people to outline how they can support young people to access the Business Sparks programme which proved to be a productive session with participants enjoying the workshop and looking forward to getting involved in the new programme.

The launch event saw a group of 6 young people attending to hear more about the programme and sign up with a further 5 or 6 young people unable to attend but having expressed an interest in taking part in Business Sparks going forward.

Reviving the Heart of the West End is a charity and development trust with a vision to encourage the regeneration of the west end of Newcastle, with the creation of enterprise, employment and training opportunities for the whole community. Most of their work is tailored around the provision of managed workspace with serviced office and workshop units for new and young businesses (SMES).

RVHWE have recognised Solar Learning’s expertise and experience in working with young people and enterprise developed through our Youth Enterprise Hub development and as a partnership both organisations are excited by the new opportunities that will be created for young people living in the west end of the city.
